Looking forward to spring flowers, and for my eczema to be gone
It’s the end of March and, besides a few random days where it was 60 degrees, it is still cold as hell. Weather in the winter has always been sporadic in the Greater Chicago Area (where I lived pretty much my whole life) but I feel like the cold has gotten worse recently. This may also just be what it feels like to get older. There is no scientific data to back this up, but I think that climate change is making true winter weather start later in the year, thus making it feel like it’s gone on for longer. When was the last time we had snow for Christmas?
Yesterday I went to the Chicago Botanic Garden, which is in Glencoe and is actually super far away from the city. It was the last day of their orchid exhibit, and while it was quite beautiful I would recommend never going to a flower exhibit on the last day of its run. There are simply too many people trying to get their fill of flowers before the end. Honestly, there are too many people going to exhibits of all kinds on weekends. Stop going to things I want to go to on days where I can go to them! I once took my birthday off work so I could enjoy the Art Institute on a weekday only to find out that they are not open on Tuesdays.
Anyways, I really enjoyed the flowers. There were flowers everywhere—on the walls, in planters, hanging from the ceiling. It inspired me to get a flower-full home of my own. This is rich coming from me, though. I’ve had to put all of my plants from the sunroom into my living room for the winter and they are all doing poorly, partly from less good direct sunlight and partly from my neglect. I love having plants in theory but I’m not consistent in taking care of anything ever. That being said, I do dream of having a home with a bunch of hanging plants everywhere that makes the home whimsical-looking.
Spring officially is here according to a calendar, but it’s not quite there yet. Once it gets warmer I can finally put all the plants in the sunroom again, where I hope they will grow back from my neglect and start to thrive again. With the warm weather also means more humidity which also means that the eczema on my hands will start to go away. I’ve used so much lotion this winter that I should be able to get a tax subsidy on my purchases. CeraVe is not the cheapest product on the market but is the only thing that doesn’t burn my skin off.
I’m looking forward to something new. I can feel it in my bones (and my terrible skin).
